Windows Updates
Keeping your computer up-to-date is crucial for security and performance. At UNI, we manage Windows updates to ensure all systems are running smoothly and securely. Here's a breakdown of how we handle updates:
Major Upgrades vs. Monthly Cumulative Updates
Major Upgrades:
These are significant updates that introduce new features and improvements. Examples include upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 or from version 22621 to 22631.
Major upgrades are less frequent but require more time and resources to install.
These upgrades are coordinated with UNI IT and will be available under the "Operating Systems" tab in the Software Center.
Monthly Cumulative Updates:
These updates are released on Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month.
They include security patches, bug fixes, and minor improvements.
Monthly updates are smaller and quicker to install compared to major upgrades.
They are automatically available in the Software Center under the "Updates" tab.
Update Installation Process
Availability: Updates are available to install immediately once released.
Maintenance Window: Computers will only install updates automatically during a maintenance window. For most areas, this is on Sunday night between midnight and 5 AM.
Restart Prompt: After updates are installed, you may be prompted to restart your computer to complete the process.
Employee Responsibility
It is the responsibility of UNI employees to ensure their equipment is up-to-date. Regularly check for updates and restart your computer when prompted to maintain optimal performance and security.
