SPSS: Access and FAQs
The University of Northern Iowa has a campus-wide license for IBM SPSS Statistics (Standard Edition).
This SPSS license includes the Advanced Statistics, Regression, Custom Tables, Bootstrapping and Data Preparation modules.
For students, SPSS Statistics should be available in most on-campus computer labs and it is also available off-campus by way of Virtual Desktops.
Faculty/staff needing SPSS Statistics installed on their university office desktop computer/laptop1 should use Service Hub to contact one's assigned IT support staff.
1 The licensing of SPSS requires the application be launched on a computer that is active on the campus network.
This means it will not function on a laptop that is taken off-campus, not unless the VPN is being used.
For faculty/staff with a dedicated on-campus desktop computer, it is recommended to use Remote Desktop into that computer to run SPSS.
Starting with version 28, SPSS installs and shows up in the Start menu as only "IBM SPSS Statistics". This is in contrast to older versions, such as SPSS 24.
For those who are used to the look of older versions of SPSS, such as SPSS 24, one may wish to change
Edit > Options... > General: Look and Feel to "SPSS Standard".
Another newer setting some may wish to disable (uncheck Enabled) is
Edit > Options... > General > Auto-Recovery.
