Using the SSL VPN to access restricted services
About VPN Access
A virtual private network will allow you to access network resources that are normally restricted to certain IP address spaces. Typically these are required at companies to ensure safe and secure access for employees to work resources. More and more VPN access is used and required to access resources for schools, hospitals, and anywhere you might have private information. For Weblab restricting access of some services to VPN only will ensure we can provide the best security for typically vulnerable services.
How to Connect to the VPN:
FOR INSTRUCTORS!
You'll need to file a ticket with https://servicehub.uni.edu to grant your class access to UNI's VPN.Please include course identifier (ex: class-999-01-spring).
Once students (and instructors!) have access to the VPN they can go to this URL: sslvpn.uni.edu/Students, if you already have the Cisco VPN software and access to another VPN, feel free to use that or change your URL to it.
Follow the prompts to install the software and once launched enter in the URL to complete the connection. Once installed go to Start and open Cisco Secure Client. If the drop down box is empty, fill in the access URL, sslvpn.uni.edu/Students.
You'll receive a CatID prompt and MFA (if eligible on your account).
Troubleshooting
If you're having issues check the following:
Make sure you're using the right URL, for students that is: sslvpn.uni.edu/Students
