"Can't access item" in Google Drive

Disabled file sharing

If you are trying to access a document that you previously had access to, and are seeing a message saying you can't access the item, and that "The organization that owns this item doesn't allow you to access it," it probably means that the document was owned by a disabled account, and file sharing was disabled on that account.  The message should look similar to this:

If you need this document, please put in a Service Hub request for temporary access to the Google Drive document, including as much of this information as possible:

  • Name of the document

  • The owner of the document or possible owners

  • The URL or link to the document ie: https://docs.google.com/document/d/AbCD12345EFG

  • Approximate date the document was last accessed

  • Type of document, ie: sheet, google doc, pdf, etc.
