How to create a Zoom meeting for your class/course (for Instructors)
This tutorial shows you how to create one Zoom link that could be used throughout the semester for a class:
1- Click on your Zoom desktop client and click on the "Schedule" button:
2- Under Topic, give it a specific name that is clear to you, as the instructor, what course this link will belong to. Also select "Recurring meeting". This action will remove the date/time options:
3- Leave Meeting ID on "Generate Automatically".
4- Under Security, the "Passcode" option should be checked already. If not, please check it.
5- Selecting the "Waiting Room" and "Only authenticated users...." options are your preference.
6- Turn Video on for both Host (you) and the Participants.
7- Audio should be on "Telephone and Computer Audio".
8- For Calendar choose "Other Calendar" for now. You may insert the meting info in your preferred calendar later.
9- Expand Advanced Options and see if there is any option that you would want to enable. We recommend that the first option "Allow participants to join anytime" is NOT selected, for security reasons.
10- Click Save.
A new box will open with all the info (maybe too much info!).
11- To share the Zoom room information with your students, you may copy the whole invitation by clicking on the "Copy to Clipboard" and then paste it either in a specific area in your Blackboard Course or in an email to students. However, the main part that your students will need is the URL, Meeting ID, and Passcode shown in the red box below:
To Start the Meeting as a Host:
Warning: As the instructor, you must start the meeting from the Zoom application downloaded on your computer. If you go through the link you have provided to your students in the course, it may not recognize you as the host and will not let you in.
Open your Zoom desktop client on your computer. Go to the Meetings tab on top. Find your scheduled room and click Start.
It is IMPORTANT that you start the meeting this way, otherwise Zoom may not recognize you as the host and ask you to wait for the host to start the meeting!
