Installing, Logging in, and Using Zoom

Installing


On UNI-owned machines, you may use the Software Center on Windows or Self Service on Macs for Zoom installation. You may also follow the steps below, instead. 

  1. Navigate to http://zoom.us/download 

  2. Under the first header, click Download.

    • If using Chrome: Click the file in the bottom-left corner.

    • If using Firefox: Click Save File and select in the top-right corner.

    • If using Edge: Click Run in the bottom right corner

Hosting a Meeting

To start hosting a meeting, click the orange box labeled "New Meeting". If you would like to start the meeting with or without video select the dropdown arrow for more options.

  1. Click Join Audio Conference by Computer.

  2. To invite other people, click either Invite or Invite Others in the Participants tab.

  3. Sharing options:

Joining a Meeting

  1. If you were sent an invitation, simply click the URL to join automatically. 

  2. If they just have provided you a meeting ID, click the blue Join button, then type or paste (Ctrl + V) the ID.

Meeting Features

  1. Participants or Manage Participants:

    • See list of participants

    • Mute yourself

    • Change your name

    • Mute, rename, or remove someone in the meeting as a host

    • Change permissions

  2. Share Screen

    • Choose a windows to share (default is desktop). 

    • Click Share Screen to get started. Click Pause, Resume Share, or Stop Share.

    • Click Annotate to highlight, draw, or point out things on your screen. 

  3. Chat

    • Click on Chat.

    • This will allow you to use instant messaging. 

  4. Record

    • Click on Record. Only the host can record or give permission to record. 

    • At the end of the meeting, the recording will be automatically saved to your computer (or to the Cloud, depending on what you picked).

  5. Breakout Rooms

    • This feature allows you to break the meeting into smaller groups. Click on Breakout Rooms to get started.

    • Choose one of the three options to divide the participants: 1) "Assign automatically" splits the participants evenly, 2) "Assign manually" allows you to choose participants for each breakout room, 3) "Let participants choose room" allows participants to pick and join a room. 

  • After creation, you can further manage the participants in each room. When you are ready to actually split the meeting up, click Open All Rooms.

Ending the Meeting

  • If you are the host, click End Meeting. It will then give the option to either End Meeting for All or just Leave Meeting.

  • If you are a participant, click Leave Meeting.
