Transferring Files to the UNI Web Cluster using SFTP

Transferring files to the UNI web cluster can be accomplished by using an SFTP client. The most common are WinSCP and Cyberduck. Instructions for these are included in this document, but the settings for other clients should be similar.

The server that hosts files for most UNI related faculty, emeritus, and student websites is called "sunny.uni.edu" though the web address will likely be different.

WinSCP (recommended for Windows)

WinSCP is the most common Windows client for using SFTP to transfer files.

  1. After installing WinSCP on your Windows machine, you will need to create a new connection:

  2. After entering "sunny.uni.edu" in the Host Name field, and your CatID username and passwords in the User name and Password fields, you can click the Login button.

    3. Finally, you will see another pop up with the standard UNI authentication banner:

You will now be able to transfer files from your local machine to and from sunny.uni.edu. Further instructions on using WinSCP can be found in the WinSCP Documentation.

Cyberduck is available for both Windows and MacOS.

  1. After installing Cyberduck on your Mac or Windows machine, you will need to create a new connection. Ensure the Server is "sunny.uni.edu" and that you've entered your CatID username and password in the Username and Password fields. When you are done, close the new connection window.
