MyUNIverse - content customization
Individuals have options in regard to what MyUNIverse portal content is available for a given tab (ex. 'My Page'). Collections of links are categorized into segments - these collections are referred to as 'pagelets'. For example, 'Password Central' is a pagelet within the 'My Page' tab.
Some pagelets are standard, required content, and others are optional. To access the functionality needed to customize MyUNIverse content, you will notice two links in the upper right corner of the page - each tab that you can navigate to (ex. 'My Page') has these links named 'Personalize Content | Layout':
Let's first look at 'Content' for tab 'My Page':
You will notice that all pagelets have check boxes. Some boxes are shaded out - these are required content. The others can be turned on or off by checking the box or unchecking. These pagelet boxes that are not shaded out are considered optional MyUNIverse content for your custom portal. Changing these settings only affect your portal, and no one else.
Each column of pagelets and their check boxes represent it's correlating tab content. You will notice that other optional pagelets that are resident to other tabs are also displayed in additional columns on the 'My Page' tab content page. These additional columns allow customizing your portal profile by 'crossing over' into another tab's residing pagelet content. For example, if we choose to include pagelet 'Jobs@UNI' that normally resides on the Work@UNI tab, into our 'My Page' tab content, we simply check the 'Jobs@UNI' check box:
Once all desired changes are made, click 'Save' at the bottom of the page, and you will notice that your portal page will refresh with the revised pagelet content.
All optional pagelets that are added to a tab's content will show at the bottom of the left most column by default:
We will now discuss the function of the 'Layout' link. If we choose to shift the location of the newly added 'Jobs@UNI' pagelet, we click the left or right arrow to move to a different column, and click the up or down to move to a different vertical position within that column. You also have the option of showing two or three columns of pagelet content for each tab, as well as deleting a given pagelet from your customized content. Again, click 'Save' at the bottom once all desired changes are made to the layout feature:
You will notice that some pagelets have '#' next to them, indicating that these positions are fixed, and cannot be customized. In our example, 'Jobs@UNI' was shifted to the center column, immediately below '#Current Announcements'.
***There is one issue to consider when any customization has been done to your MyUNIverse portal content. There are occasions when the IT Portal Administrator needs to do some maintenance to a given optional portal pagelet, or add a new optional portal pagelet. If you have customized your MyUNIverse portal in regard to content and/or layout, and when maintenance has completed to an optional pagelet by the IT Portal Administrator, that pagelet will likely vanish from your portal. If you discover that a pagelet is missing from your portal that is normally present, you should go to the 'Content' link for the tab in question, and re-check the empty check box, and 'Save'. This step also applies to any new optional pagelet that is developed by IT. You will likely need to check the box, and 'Save' from the 'Content' link for this scenario as well.
If you ever experience a time when you do not see an optional pagelet display on a given tab's content, when it normally is there, please submit a Service Hub ticket, and/or contact the IT Help Desk.
