Duo hardware token
In addition to using a smartphone, a Duo hardware token can be used as another form of access to UNI systems. Pressing a button on the token will display a code that can be used as a passcode.
Incompatible with Remote Desktop
A hardware token or security key cannot be used with the required multi-factor authentication for Remote Desktop. The Duo mobile smartphone app is necessary for authentication of Remote Desktop from off-campus unless using a UNI VPN connection.
Getting a Duo token
Duo tokens can be purchased at the UNI Bookstore for around $25. After purchasing the token, fill out the Duo Token Registration request in Service Hub.
Common token problems
There are two common issues with Duo hardware tokens:
The battery is dead. If the token does not power on after pressing the button to provide a code, a replacement token will need to be purchased.
Typing in the code doesn't work. Sometimes a token can get out of sync if the button is pressed too frequently in a period of time. Contact the IT Service Desk for assistance resyncing the token.
Duo token alternatives
If you aren't able to purchase a Duo token, Duo recommends HOTP tokens. Examples of these devices are from Feitian or Yubico.
