How to reduce image sizes
Large size images in Blackboard Learn cause slowness in opening the page, as well as cloud storage issues. In general, we don't encourage uploading images directly to Blackboard Learn, but if you must, please make their sizes smaller following the instructions provided below. Simply dragging the edges of the image inward or outward will not affect the file size. You need to change the digits for the pixels or dimensions manually. Please follow these simple steps to do so:
On a Windows 10:
Open the image. Click on the "More" option (the 3 dots on the upper right) and choose "Resize"
Click on "Define custom dimensions":
In the next window, be sure the box for "Maintain aspect ratio" is checked. In the "Width" box, you would see a large number probably with four digits. Type a smaller number there, such as 600. You will notice that the "Height" will also change automatically and you don't need to do any calculations. A Width of about 600 would be ideal in Blackboard Learn. You may try smaller numbers too. Click "Save resized copy". Save the resized copy of the image at a preferred location of your choice on your computer.
On a macOS Catalina
(Hint: You may want to save a copy of this image before you resize it)
Open the image and on the desktops toolbar on top click Tools > Adjust Size. Change the Width to about 600. The Height should adjust accordingly. Click OK.
