What is the difference between non-refundable and refundable airfare?
A non-refundable fare is generally less expensive than a refundable ticket and thus the recommended option that aligns with the University’s Travel Policy (the lowest reasonable coach/economy fare that meets the business needs of the university). A refundable fare can be purchased in certain circumstances with the unit’s discretion and support documentation.
In the event of cancellation, the non-refundable fare will be converted by the airline into an “unused ticket credit” worth the value of the original ticket. This unused ticket credit can be used by the traveler towards the purchase of future airfare with the same airline. Whereas, a refundable fare will have the value of the original ticket refunded back to the original form of payment.
What if I choose to purchase airline tickets with my university T&H card?
If using a university T&H card, the airfare must be purchased using either the CTP Lightning Booking Tool or by contacting CTP directly at (877) 848-9330 or uni@ctptravelservices.com.
Exemptions must been granted by the OBO travel team prior to booking.
What if I purchase airline tickets with personal funds?
If purchasing a ticket with personal funds you have the option of using any reputable source; however, you must be aware that you will not be reimbursed for this amount until AFTER the trip has ended and the Expense Report has been processed by the Travel Office.
This is very important to know since many times these tickets are purchased well in advance of your trip.
Why can’t I book a Basic Economy fare?
UNI allows travelers to book economy/coach flights through CTP, but not basic economy flights. This is due to the highly restrictive nature of a basic economy fare, which can present issues for travelers and why UNI has decided to restrict basic economy fares with CTP and the Lightning tool.

Can You Transfer Your Airline Ticket to Someone Else?
In most cases, no. Most major U.S. airlines, including American, Delta, United, and Southwest typically do not allow passengers to transfer airline tickets to another person.
There are various reasons for which flights are restricted from transfer to another person, primarily to prevent ticket scalping and ensure the person flying matches the identification presented.
However, there are exceptions that can vary by airline.
Which Airlines Allow Transferable Tickets?
While major U.S. airlines do not allow transferable tickets, a few low-cost carriers have that option. It's best to contact the airline directly for the latest info.
These airlines might allow you to cancel your reservation within a specific window (like 24 hours) and rebook a new ticket under a different name for a fee.
What should I do if I have a ticket that will expire soon?
If you will be traveling, you should attempt to use the ticket for an upcoming trip before it expires. CTP can assist you if you have questions.
Does CTP match lower prices found elsewhere?
CTP will match a lower price from the airline’s direct website on the identical itinerary fare .
Matching does not apply to third party travel sites such as Expedia or Kayak.
To request price matching, promptly email a screenshot from the airline’s and Lightning’s website, including as much information about the itinerary as possible, to na.pricematch@ctptravelservices.com. They will communicate next steps.
