Guidelines for purchasing airline tickets

The traveler is an employee of UNI and travels frequently (3 times or more per year).

The traveler is an employee of UNI and travels frequently (3 times or more per year).

When booking a flight, purchase a non-refundable ticket regardless of the airline(s) you booked your flight on. 

  •  If the traveler needs to cancel the flight for any reason, the unused ticket will be available for 12 months to use on their next reservation.

The traveler is an employee of UNI and travels infrequently (less than 3 times per year).

When booking a flight, purchase a non-refundable ticket when:

  • The traveler has known travel plans again in the next 12 months and will be able to apply the unused ticket to their next trip.

  • The traveler will not be traveling again in the next 12 months but is able to coordinate with another traveler in their department who will be traveling. Prior to canceling the flight, the traveler or travel arranger will need to contact a CTP agent to change the name on the ticket to the new traveler.

  • If neither of these apply, the traveler should purchase a refundable ticket.

The traveler is a UNI student or UNI guest.

When booking a flight, purchase a non-refundable ticket only when one of the following apply:

  • The student or guest has multiple travel plans in the next 12 months and will be able to apply the unused ticket to a future trip in the event of a cancellation.

  • The student or guest will not be traveling again in the next 12 months, but the department is able to coordinate and apply the unused ticket to another traveler in the department. Prior to canceling the flight, the travel arranger will need to contact a CTP agent to change the name on the ticket to the new traveler.

  • If neither of these apply, the department should purchase a refundable ticket for the student or guest.
