Bus or Rail

The use of bus or rail is encouraged when it provides a cost-effective and safe travel alternative.
Long-distance Bus or Rail Travel
Fares allowed up to the cost of comparable round-trip airfare booked at least 30 days in advance, plus applicable ground transportation.
Short-distance Bus or Rail Travel
Short-distance travel fares, such as those for metro bus, ferry, metro train and subway, are allowable travel expenses when they are determined to be reasonable and necessary for business purposes.
Seating Class
Standard coach class fares are allowed.
Sleeper accommodations require either a cost savings over airfare, or a proper business justification is provided.
Required Documentation
Itemized receipts are required for all long-distance rail and bus fares.
Receipts required for any short-distance rail or bus fares of $75.00 or more.
Fares must be itemized by date.
