Chartered Air Travel
Last Updated: Mar 4, 2026
Chartered air travel may be approved by an appropriate administrator when it serves the University’s best interests, particularly in terms of cost-effectiveness and time efficiency. Justifications for charter use may include savings on transportation, lodging, meals, and productivity.
Eligibility Criteria
Charter flights may be considered under the following circumstances:
Commercial air travel is unavailable or impractical for the destination or schedule.
Group travel where chartering is more economical than individual commercial fares.
Significant time savings can be achieved compared to commercial options.
A late commercial return would hinder next-day work responsibilities.
An urgent off-campus commitment arises and no reasonable commercial alternatives exist.
Approval Process
All charter travel must be approved in advance.
Requests must include a business justification outlining the cost and time benefits of chartered travel.
