Educator Preparation

Educator Preparation

Educator Preparation Summary

The Educator Preparation pathway in Phase I centered on the need to strengthen education as a cornerstone of the university. The recommendations, however, were vague because of the scope of the perceived challenges. Generally, recommendations suggested significant reworking of educator preparation to address curriculum complexity, program lengths, and serving underrepresented students, particularly students of color, in order to regain a competitive edge within the state.

Market analysis confirms the importance of Teacher and Educator Preparation for the future of UNI, but it is recognized that challenges must be primarily addressed in the college and the teacher preparation faculty. Determining how to improve the positioning of the Teacher and Educator Preparation programs will be prioritized as part of the Dean of the COE search.
